WELCOME TO BABY BOOMER CENTENARIANS
Motivational Song “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi ( I had the privilege to see Bon Jovi live at the Jazz and Blues Festival New Orleans in 2011)
Hi my name is Kim. I am 65 years young and I am a BABY BOOMER born in 1957. My goal is to be a healthy CENTENARIAN and over the next 35 + years I will be working towards this goal. If you have a similar mindset to maximise becoming a healthy centenarian regardless of your age or generation I want to inspire you to follow me and join me in this journey.
Music to Rock and Roll to on the Centenarian journey.
Music is an integral part of life and the majority of baby boomers were born into an era of new rock bands and songs constantly emerging, creating a soundtrack to our lives. So, look out for songs and music featured all throughout this blog as inspiration and fun as we work towards this goal together.
Baby Boomer History
Baby Boomers are the generation born between 1946 to 1964. The name Baby Boomer came about at the end of World War II when there was an explosion in the birth rate of many countries around the world.
In 2023 Baby Boomers are aged between 59 and 77 years. The current life expectancy of a Baby Boomer is almost 80 years and women are three times more likely to live the longest.
Currently Australia has over 3700 people aged over 100, however, the Australian Government* estimates that by 2050 Australia will have more than 50000 people aged over 100. In 2050, I will be 93 years old and the oldest of the Baby Boomer generation will be 105 years old.
Today, many Baby Boomers have retired but some are still working by choice or not yet at retirement pension age. Retirement pension age has gradually increased over recent years. If you are born from 1st January 1957 the pension age is 67. This reflects the fact that Baby Boomers are living longer, correlating with the estimated increase in Centenarians by 2050.
In the last 100 years, life expectancy has increased by 20 years. However what I think is most important is not just adding years to life, but adding life to years. I’m inspired to make every year of the Centenarian journey the healthiest and happiest possible.
To become a happy and healthy Centenarian there are three things I think are most important to work towards.
- Physically Active: “Let’s Get Physical” by Olivia Newton John
- Be Independent: “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John
- Stay Cognitively Alert: “In My Life” by the Beatles
I will cover these in more detail in upcoming blog posts.
Stay tuned…
In the next post, I will cover the pros and cons of living to be a CENTENARIAN. You might think that everyone strives to live to 100+, however I’ll delve into some of the fears and issues associated with old age, along with the many benefits. In future posts, I’ll also feature the life story of a remarkable Centenarian, the dear Dolly.
Please note, the information in my posts is from my personal research, observations, life experience and the information I have gathered from interviews and life conversations with like-minded people. I hope you’ll join in the journey and the conversation by adding a comment below.
Keep Rockin’ and Rollin’ till next time!
Kim
